Wilderness Survival Training
Name: Wilderness Survival TrainingDate: October 16, 2021 - October 17, 2021Event Description:Spend 24 hours in the Sands Point Preserve’s majestic woods with Ranger Eric Powers and survival expert Adam Nestor to learn to survive in the wild in a number of active scenarios. From 12 pm on Saturday, October 16 to 12 pm on Sunday, October 17, you’ll learn essential skills to build shelter, make fire, purify water, cook – and have fun in a new community of fellow survivors! Social distancing and face masks are required. This program is geared for adults, but children 14+ are welcome with an adult.
24-HOUR SCHEDULE
Saturday
12 – 2 pm: Shelter Building
2 – 4 pm: Fire Making
4 – 6 pm: Cooking – Pot Luck
6 – 7 pm: Cleanup Dinner, Set Up Tents
7 – 9 pm: Burn Bowls
9 – 10 pm: Start Cordage / Continue Burn Bowls
10 pm: Bed timeSunday
6 – 7 am: Early Morning Nature Walk
7 – 9 am: Breakfast served in Castle Gould
9 – 10 am: Continue Cordage
10 – 11 am: Open Skills Practice
11 am – 12 pm: Clean up, pack up
12 – 1 pm: Program pack outParticipants should bring sleeping bags and camping gear to spend the night comfortably, and the following gear/supplies are recommended:
- Day hiking books
- Bird guide
- Weather-appropriate clothes (layers recommended)
- Walking shoes
- Work gloves
- Pocket knife
- Your favorite “go to” camp-out dinner – bring extra to share
- Energy snacks
- Mess kit
- Optional: your favorite fire maker
- Optional: tent
- Optional: bug spray
